HOURAI
HOURAI project is an industry-university cooperating project renovating a special floor of an old Japanese hotel in Yamagata. And it was named from the legend of Mt. Hourai-san, where the mysterious turtle and Japanese gods are said to live in. The wall of each guiest rooms is made with wainscot which is layered with different Naguri textures sculptured by numerical control machining. The wall appears in different ways little by little corresponding to the change of sun light and when the setting sun shine the wall, the stratum such as the surface of the Mt. Hourai-san shows up. It is tried expressing the legend of the Mt. Hourai-san, which flickers on the ocean, with using the unique location of the hotel.
